How to Fix New World High Ping Issues

Ping is the amount of milliseconds it takes a packet of data to travel from your computer to a server on the internet and back. For many online games like New World, high ping can cause much lag and make your game unplayable.

Generally speaking, if ping is above 100 ms, it belongs to “high”. If ping is below 20 ms, it belongs to “low”. A decent broadband connection is required to keep ping in low status. If you’re having a perfect broadband connection and still encounter the high ping issues, this post is for you. Try the methods below one by one until you find the one that works for you.

Method 1: Try connecting to another server
Method 2: Restart your router and modem
Method 3: Set the Bandwidth Mode to High
Method 4: Change DNS
Method 5: Disable third-party applications
Method 6: Use a wired connection

Method 1: Try connecting to another server

One of the key factors to influence ping is the server distance. New World offers many servers that allow you to choose to connect. It’s recommended you choose the server that’s closest to your current location.

No matter what, try connecting to a closer server and see if it helps to fix the high ping issue.

Method 2: Restart your router and modem

To fix the New World high ping issue, you can try restarting your router and modem. To do so, you can follow the below steps. It’s easy and quick.

1) Power off your router and modem.

2) Unplug the power cable from the router and modem.

3) Wait for a few minutes like 5 minutes.

4) Plug the power cable back into the router and modem.

5) Power on the router and modem and check to see if the high ping issue still persists.

Method 3: Set the Bandwidth Mode to High

Bandwidth can also influence the ping. If New World is set to play with a low bandwidth, you probably will see a high ping. So ensure the Bandwidth Mode in game settings is set to high.

Launch New World, go to Settings -> Preference , then you can see if Bandwidth Mode is set to High. If not, select High from the drop-down menu. Once done, restart your computer and check to see if you’re still facing the high ping issue.

Method 4: Change DNS

Changing your DNS to google’s public DNS may help fix the high ping issue. To do so:

1) On your keyboard, press Win+I (the Windows logo key and the I key) at the same time to open the Windows Settings window.

2) Select Network & Internet.

3) Click on Change adapter options.

4) Right-click on the network you’re currently using and select Properties.

5) Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties.

6) Select Use the following DNS server addresses, then change the Preferred DNS server and the Alternate DNS server as follows:

Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4

7) Click OK to save the changes.

8) Restart your computer and check to see if the high ping issue is resolved.

Method 5: Disable third-party applications

While playing New World, close third-party applications, especially those taking up high amounts of bandwidth. This may reduce bandwidth usage and allocate more bandwidth to New World. In that case, the high ping issue may be resolved. Here’s how to do it:

1) Right-click on the Start menu button at the bottom left corner of the desktop and select Task Manager.

2) Under the Processes tab, click Network to filter applications by their network usage.

3) Select the application or task taking up high amounts of bandwidth and click on End task.

4) Repeat step 3) to close all other applications or tasks taking up bandwidth.

5) Once done, restart your computer and check to see if the high ping issue still persists.

Method 6: Use a wired connection

A wireless connection can easily cause packet loss which can cause the high ping issue. While playing New World, if you’re on a wireless connection, you may experience the high ping issue. If possible, try to play New World on a wired connection and see if it helps fix the high ping issue.
