Origin Could Not Connect to Internet [SOLVED]

Whenever you try to open Origin Client, you receive the following message:

Origin Installation requires an internet connection, but we were unable to connect to the internet. Please check your connection and try again. You may also download the latest version of origin here:”

Your internet seems to work properly but what happens? Not to worry. To fix the error, you can try these methods:

Method 1: Run the System File Checker tool
Method 2: Install a trusted digital certificate
Method 3: Flush DNS
Method 4: Change your DNS server
Method 5: Reinstall Origin

Method 1: Run the System File Checker tool

Corrupted or missing system files can cause Origin internet connection errors. To fix the
error, you can try running the System File Checker tool to detect and restore the problem system files. To do so:

1) On your keyboard, press Win+R (the Windows logo key and the R key) at the same time to invoke the Run box.

2) Type “cmd” into the Run box, and then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter at the same time to open Command Prompt as administrator.

3) At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press Enter.

sfc /scannow

The “sfc /scannow” command will scan all your system files including the protected system files and replace corrupted files automatically. The process can take a while. Do not close the Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The result will be shown after the process is finished.

If Method 1 doesn’t work for you, continue to try Method 2.

Method 2: Install a trusted digital certificate

Some users have reported that missing a trusted digital certificate for Origin can cause the “could not connect to internet” error, and manually installing a trusted digital certificate helped fix the error.

Firstly, you can check if the digital certificate issued to Origin is trusted.

1) Go to the Origin installation directory (the default directory is C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin).

2) Locate and right-click on the “Origin.exe” file, and then select Properties.

3) At the Digital Signatures tab, select the Electronic Arts string and then click the Details tab.

4) Check if the digital certificate is trusted from the Digital Signature Information. If it says the digital signature is OK, it means the digital certificate is trusted, then you can skip this method. If not, it means it’s not trusted, then you can follow the below steps to install a trusted digital certificate.

1) Go to DigiCert website where you can download trusted digital certificates.

2) Locate DigiCert Trusted Root G4 with the Serial 05:9B:1B:57:9E:8E:21:32:E2:39:07:BD:A7:77:75:5C, and then click on Download DER/CRT.

3) Once download is done, double-click on the downloaded file named “DigiCertTrustedRootG4.crt” to start installing the digital certificate.

4) Click on Open.

5) Click on Install Certificate…

6) Click Next.

7) Select the option “Place all certificates in the following store” and then click on Browse…

8) Select Trusted Root Certification Authorities.

9) Click Next.

10) Click Finish then the certificate will be imported and installed to your computer.

After installing the new digital certificate, check to see if your Origin can connect to the internet.

If Method 2 doesn’t work for you, continue to try Method 3.

Method 3: Flush DNS

The error can be caused by the culprit DNS server settings. You can try flushing DNS and see if it helps. Here’s how to do it:

1) On your keyboard, press Win+R (the Windows logo key and the R key) at the same time to invoke the Run box.

3) Type the following commands one at a time. Remember to press Enter after each command.
