Every time when you try to launch Planet Zoo, it won’t launch and will crash on startup. That’s frustrating. But no worries. This is one of the common issues happening to the Planet Zoo game. Many Planet Zoo users have reported this issue, and they have resolved the issue with one of the methods below. You can try these methods as well.

Method 1: Restart Steam
Method 2: Verify the game files
Method 3: Update graphics card drivers
Method 4: Temporarily disable antivirus software
Method 5: Run the game as administrator
Method 6: Remove the problem mods
Method 7: Reinstall the game

Method 1: Restart Steam

To fix Planet Zoo crashing on startup issue, the first method you should try is to restart Steam. It’s easy and quick.

Close Steam and start it again, then launch Planet Zoo. If the game runs successfully, that’s fine. If not, try the next method.

Method 2: Verify the game files

The game files of Planet Zoo can be missing or corrupted during Steam downloads or updates. If the game files are missing or corrupted, the game may not be able to launch.

Fortunately, Steam has an inbuilt feature designed to verify and repair missing/corrupted game files. You can use this feature to verify game files and see if the Planet Zoo crashing issue can be resolved. Here’s how to do it:

1) Launch Steam.

2) From the Library section, right-click on Planet Zoo and select Properties from the context menu.

3) Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files… button. Then Steam will verify the game files.

The process may take several minutes. Wait until the process is done.

4) Once done, restart Steam and check to see if you can launch Planet Zoo without errors.

If the problem still occurs, continue to try Method 3.

Method 3: Update graphics card drivers

Game crashing issues can be caused by outdated/faulty graphics card drivers. To fix Planet Zoo crashing issues, you can try updating the graphics card driver to the latest version.

You can update the graphics card driver via Device Manager. Here’s how:

1) Open Device Manager (learn how to access Device Manager).

2) Expand category “Display adapters”. Right-click on your graphics card device entry and then select Update driver.

3) Select Search automatically for drivers. Then Windows will search for a new driver and install the driver automatically.

Alternatively, you can go to the PC manufacturer’s website or the graphics card manufacturer’s website to download the drivers. Usually, drivers can be downloaded from the Drivers, Support or Download section.

Tip: If the error still persists, you can use Driver Easy to help update the drivers. Driver Easy can scan your system to detect any missing or outdated driver and allow you to update drivers with a few clicks. Go to the vendor’s website to download Driver Easy.

After updating the driver, check to see if the Planet Zoo crashing issue is resolved. If not, you can try Method 4.

Method 4: Temporarily disable antivirus software

Some antivirus software can stop games from launching. So if you have any anti-virus software installed, disable them temporarily and see if it helps.

Important: While the anti-virus software is disabled, be extra careful what sites you visit, what files you download and what emails you open. If the antivirus software is not the cause, remember to enable it to protect your computer.

Method 5: Run the game as administrator

You can try running Planet Zoo as administrator. Here’s how to do it:

1) Launch Steam.

2) Right-click on Planet Zoo and select Properties from the context menu.

3) Select the Local files tab and then click the Browse local files… button. Then the Planet Zoo folder will open.

4) Inside the Planet Zoo folder, right-click on Planet Zoo.exe and select Run as administrator.

Method 6: Remove the problem mods

Broken mods can also be the cause of the crashing issues. If the issue occurs after you have installed a mod, it’s that mod causing the issue. Deleting that mod can fix the issue.

Go to Steam>SteamApps > Common> Planet Zoo, then delete the mods you don’t want.

If you have no idea which mod is causing the issue, you can figure it out by enabling the mods one at a time. To do so:

Move all mods to another location for example the desktop. Then move the mods back to the Steam folder one at a time. If the problem occurs after you move back a particular mod, that’s the mod causing the issue. In that case, deleting that particular mod can fix the issue.

Method 7: Reinstall the game

If none of the above methods doesn’t work, you can try reinstalling the game.

Firstly, uninstall the game.

1) Launch Steam.

2) In your Steam library, right-click on Planet Zoo and select Manage -> Uninstall.

3) Steam will confirm with you whether you want to completely uninstall the game. Just click the Uninstall button to uninstall the game.

Secondly, reinstall the game.

After uninstalling the game, you can follow these steps to reinstall the game:

1) Launch Steam again.

2) In the library, right-click on Planet Zoo and select Install from the context menu.

3) Follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the game.

  1. I tried to download this game for my girlfriend, but the game crashed everytime on startup. Unfortunately none of these fixes worked for me, but i found a solution. So i play on a GTX 1070, with the 546.17 version(this is the latest version of now, 2023.11.14),after i uninstalled the driver the base version of my GTX 1070 is 456.71, i started the game it still crashed, but now i saw the main menu, so i checked the properties of the launcher, turned off full screen optimization and launched the game with Windows 7 compatibility mode as administrator.
    IT FINALLY WORKED.
    BUT
When i tried to reinstall the new version of the GPU driver it couldn’t run again.
    SO
My advice is that try to download older GPU drivers if you want to play with the game, cause compatibility gone wrong somewhere with the newer drivers.
