How to Get More FPS in Valorant

High FPS (frames per second) can make you play Valorant smoothly. Low FPS can cause lag and stutter in Valorant. Even worse, it can make the game unplayable. Fortunately, there are some workarounds reported to help get more FPS in Valorant. Below, I’ll list these workarounds. You can try them all and see if you can find one that works for you.

Method 1: Adjust in-game graphics settings
Method 2: Change the Power Plan in Windows
Method 3: Turn on Game Mode in Windows
Method 4: Configure graphics performance preferences for Valorant
Method 5: Make Valorant high priority in Task Manager
Method 6: Run Valorant as administrator
Method 7: Close all background programs
Method 8: Reinstall Valorant

Method 1: Adjust in-game graphics settings

Best Valorant graphics settings can give you best game performance with high FPS. To get more FPS, you can adjust in-game graphics settings.

To adjust the in-game graphics settings, launch Valorant, access Settings and then click on the Video tab on the top right. There, you’ll see 3 types of graphics settings: General settings, Graphics Quality settings and Stats settings. Here we just need to adjust the General settings and the Graphics Quality settings.

Let’s start with the General Settings. Under the General tab, locate and adjust the settings as follows:

Resolution: set to a value lower than 1920*1080

The resolution can affect FPS and visual quality at the game. With a high resolution, you’ll get a good visual quality. However, you’ll probably get a low FPS, as a higher resolution requires more resources from your PC.

To get more FPS, it’s recommended you lower the resolution a bit. For most computers, the highest resolution that can be set is 1920*1980. So you can try any value that’s lower than 1920*1980.

Tip: It’s recommended you try the resolutions that are at a 16:9 aspect ratio which won’t lower the visual quality too much.

Display Mode: Fullscreen

Set the Display Mode to Fullscreen, which always provides you with the best FPS in Valorant.

Limit FPS on Battery: Off

The Limit FPS on Battery setting is featured for laptop gamers. If you’re using a desktop computer, there’s no need for you to use this option, just set it to Off. If you’re using a laptop, set it to Off to avoid any FPS drops as this option will use resources from your laptop.

Limit FPS Always: Off

Your Valorant FPS may be capped. Turn this setting off to uncap FPS so you can get more FPS.

Nvidia Reflex Low Latency (if supported): On

If you’re playing Valorant on an Nvidia GPU, you’ll see the Nvidia Reflex Low Latency setting. Set this setting to On to help improve FPS and reduce input lag.

After you adjust the General settings, you can adjust the Graphics Quality settings as follows:

Multithreaded Rendering: On

This setting not only significantly improves the performance of your graphics card and CPU but also the visual quality. You should always set this setting to On.

Material Quality: Low

This setting can affect Valorant’s performance a lot. Setting it to Low will help you get the most FPS.

Texture Quality: Low

This setting also uses your system resources. Set it to Low may free up some resources and help you get more FPS.

Detail Quality: Low

Setting the Detail Quality setting to Low not only helps boost FPS in Valorant, but also helps reduce unnecessary textures on your screen.

UI Quality: Low

Like other quality settings, set the UI Quality setting to Low.

Anti-Aliasing: None

To get more FPS, you can set the Anti-Aliasing to Off. This may make Valorant look worse, but the FPS improvement is more important.

Anisotropic Filtering: 1X

To get the most FPS, set Anisotropic Filtering to 1X.

After you’re done with changing the in-game settings, re-launch Valorant and see if the FPS improves.

Method 2: Change the Power Plan in Windows

To ensure high FPS, check your PC power plan and change it to High Performance. Here’s how:

1) Press the Windows logo key, type “power” and then select Power & sleep settings.

2) Click on the Additional power settings link.

3) Ensure High performance is selected. If not, select it and then check to see if the FPS in Valorant improves.

preference to Valorant. This may help boost FPS in Valorant.

Here’s how:

If running Valorant as administrator doesn’t help, you can try to change DPI settings for Valorant. See Method 7.

Method 7: Close all background programs

Some programs in the background may cause game lagging\stuttering issues. Discord Overlay is one of the programs reported by players that can cause FPS to drop in Valorant. If you have no idea which program is the culprit, you can close all background programs.

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager. You can see all programs running in the background in Task Manager. End them all and see if there are any improvements in Valorant.

end programs in task manager

Method 8: Reinstall Valorant

If none of the above methods works, the last resort you can try is to reinstall Valorant.

First, uninstall Valorant from your computer:

1) Open Settings.

2) At the Settings window, select Apps.

3) In the Apps & features section, search “valorant” and then select Valorant from the search result.

4) Click Uninstall and then follow the on-screen instructions to finish the uninstallation.
