How to Update USB Drivers on Windows 11. Easily!

Outdated or missing USB drivers can cause USB ports not working or your USB devices not recognized. In that case, you may want to update the USB drivers to fix the problem. For whatever reason, if you need to update your USB drivers manually, you can read on to learn how to download and update the USB drivers.

There are three available ways below to download and update the USB drivers. All three ways not only work for Windows 11, but also Windows 10. You can select one of the three ways below according to your needs:

Way 1: Update USB drivers via Device Manager
Way 2: Update USB drivers from device manufacturer’s website

Way 1: Update USB drivers via Device Manager

You can update the USB driver via Device Manager. Here’s how:

1) On your keyboard, press Win+R (the Windows logo key and the R key) at the same time to invoke the Run box.

2) Type “devmgmt.msc” into the Run box and press Enter.

3) Expand the category “Universal Serial Bus controllers”. Right-click on your USB device entry and then select Update driver.

Generally, you’ll see multiple entries under the category “Universal Serial Bus controllers”. For modern computers, the built-in USB port is either USB port 3.0 or USB port 3.1. Assuming you’re using a modern computer, to locate your USB device entry, find the entry labelled “xHCI” or “Extensible Host Controller”.

If you don’t see your USB device entry under “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”, the USB driver probably is missing. In this case, it’s recommended you use Way 2 or Way 3 to download and update the driver.

4) Select Search automatically for drivers. Then Windows will search for a new driver and then install it automatically.

In some rare cases, Windows might fail to find a new driver. If you’re unable to update the USB driver in Device Manager, Microsoft says:

“If Windows doesn’t find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer’s website and follow their instructions.”

If Way 1 doesn’t work for you, you can use Way 2 or Way 3.

Way 2: Update USB drivers from device manufacturer’s website

You can download and update the USB driver from the PC manufacturer’s website. If you’re using a built computer, download the driver from the motherboard manufacturer’s website. Regarding how to do that, following steps are for your reference:

1) Verify what your PC/motherboard model is.

2) Head to the manufacturer’s website and go to the Support/Download page where drivers are available to download.

3) Search for your PC model (on the motherboard manufacturer’s website, search for your motherboard model).

4) Download the latest USB driver for Windows 11/10.

Tip: If you don’t see any USB driver available for you to download, download the latest chipset driver. The chipset driver should include the USB driver.

5) Once download is done, double-click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.
