While playing Minecraft, you can’t log in to some servers, and you run into this error: “Failed to connect to the server; Failed to login null”. That’s frustrating, but don’t worry. To fix the error, you can try the methods below.
Method 1: Log out of Minecraft launcher and log in again
Method 2: Check Xbox Account Privacy Settings
Method 3: Edit the hosts file
Method 4: Contact Minecraft support team
Method 1: Log out of Minecraft launcher and log in again
Sometimes this is just a temporary server down issue. You can simply log out of the Minecraft launcher and log in again to see if that works.
1) Open your Minecraft launcher.
2) Click your game profile icon at the top left corner and select Log out.
3) Log in again.
4) Check to see if the problem is resolved.
If the problem persists, continue to try Method 2.
Method 2: Check Xbox Account Privacy Settings
The Minecraft “Failed to login null” issue can be caused by incorrect Privacy Settings in your Xbox Account, especially when you try to log in to a multiplayer server. So check your Xbox Account Privacy Settings and make sure the related options are not disabled there.
Here’s how:
1) Go to https://account.xbox.com/settings.
2) Log in with your Microsoft account.
Note: If you don’t have an Xbox account, you’ll need to make one first, which will direct you to the settings page.
3) One the settings page, select the username that you’re currently using.
4) Click the Privacy tab, check the settings and make sure no setting is set to Block. If you see a setting set to Block, change the setting to Everyone or Friends. Once changed, click the Submit button.
5) Click the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 devices Online Safety tab, check the settings and make sure no setting is set to Block. If you see a setting set to Block, change the setting to Allow. Once changed, click the Submit button.
If you run into this error when connecting to a multiplayer server, make sure the setting “You can join multiplayer games” is not set to Blocked.
6) Relaunch Minecraft and check to see if the issue is resolved.
Method 3: Edit the hosts file
The Minecraft “Failed to login null” issue can be caused by incompatible software, which could corrupt your hosts files list by redirecting any Minecraft server address to their own servers. If that’s the case, editing the hosts file can help fix the issue.
Here’s how to edit the hosts file:
1) Press the Windows logo key, type “notepad”, right-click Notepad and select Run as administrator.
2) Once the Notepad opens, click File and then select Open…
3) Type “%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts” in the File name box and click Open. After that, the hosts file will open.
4) Delete any line containing “Mojang“.
5) Press Ctrl+S to save the hosts file.
6) Relaunch Minecraft and check to see if the issue is resolved.
Method 4: Contact Minecraft support team
After you follow the above steps, if the issue still remains, you can contact the Minecraft support team. If the issue occurs on the server end, there’s nothing you can do but wait until Minecraft official fixes the issue.
To contact the Minecraft support team, you can go to the contact page on Minecraft official website and submit your information.
