Dell monitor no sound? Don’t worry. The monitor no sound issue can be easily fixed. Just read on to learn how to fix Dell monitor no sound issues on Windows 11, 10 & 7 step by step.
Try these fixes
Method 1: Check if your monitor has built-in speakers
Method 2: Ensure the speaker on your monitor is enabled
Method 3: Ensure your monitor is not muted
Method 4: Ensure your monitor is selected as the output device
Method 5: Check your default audio output device
Method 6: Check the hardware
Method 1: Check if your monitor has built-in speakers
Many Dell monitors do not come with built-in speakers. If you’re using a new Dell monitor, you should check if the monitor comes with built-in speakers or not. If your monitor doesn’t have built-in speakers, it won’t produce audio directly.
You can check the monitor’s documentation or specifications, which should list all of the features that the monitor has, including whether or not it has built-in speakers.
Go to Dell’s website and search for your monitor model number, then you can find that information easily. Or you can just do a search online for the model number of your monitor to find that information.
If your monitor has built-in speakers, move on to other fixes to fix the no sound issue. If not, you’ll need to connect external speakers to your monitor’s audio jack so you can play the audio to the monitor.
Method 2: Ensure the speaker on your monitor is enabled
There are chances that the speaker on your Dell monitor is disabled. In that case, you can’t hear sound from the monitor. So check to ensure that the speaker on your monitor is enabled.
Press the Menu button located on the side or the bottom of your Dell monitor to bring up the OSD (On Screen Display) menu, where you can check if the speaker is enabled. You can press the buttons on the monitor to navigate to it.
If the speaker on the monitor is enabled and the no sound issue persists, continue to the next method.
Method 3: Ensure your monitor is not muted
If your Dell monitor is muted, you can’t hear sound from it. So check to ensure your monitor is not muted. Here’s how:
1) Right-click on the speaker icon on the taskbar.
2) Select Open Volume mixer.
3) In the Device section, select your Dell monitor then you’ll see if it’s muted. If it’s muted, you’ll see a red circle with a red line through it next to the volume control. In that case, select the volume control to unmute.
If your monitor is not muted, continue to Method 4.
Method 4: Ensure your monitor is selected as the output device
If multiple audio output devices are available, ensure you have your Dell monitor selected. Besides, ensure the device is not disabled. To do so:
1) On your keyboard, press Win+I to open the Settings window.
2) Select System.
3) Select Sound and then check to see if the output device is set as your Dell monitor. If not, select it from the drop-down menu.
Besides, ensure your monitor is not disabled:
a) Click on Device Properties.
b) Ensure the Disable check box is cleared.
If your monitor has been selected as the output device, continue Method 5 to fix the sound issue.
Method 5: Check your default audio output device
Check to ensure your Dell monitor is set as the default audio output device. Here’s how:
1) On your keyboard, press Win+R to open the Run Command dialog box.
2) Type “control mmsys.cpl sounds” and press Enter. Then the Sound window will open.
3) At the Playback tab, check if your Dell monitor is set as the default device. If not, select it and click the Set Default button, and then click Apply -> OK to save the changes.
If Method 5 doesn’t help, try Method 6.
Method 6: Check the hardware
If none of the above methods works, it’s possible a hardware issue. The connection cable, the ports or the monitor can be damaged. Perform a hardware troubleshooting then you’ll find if it’s a hardware issue.
- Check if the cable is damaged. If possible, connect the monitor to the computer with another cable and see if the problem still occurs. If the problem doesn’t occur, a damaged cable is probably the cause.
- Check if the output port works properly. If your computer has multiple output ports (for example, multiple HDMI ports), try another port and see if the problem persists.
- Check if the monitor works properly. If possible, connect the monitor to another computer and see if the problem persists. If the monitor doesn’t work on another computer either, the monitor is probably the cause.
