Whenever you play Sims 4, it gives you the TS4_x64.exe – System Error with the message saying:
“The code execution cannot proceed because MSVCP140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.”.
That can be frustrating. But don’t worry. Following are the possible solutions you can try to fix the error:
Method 1: Install the MSVCP140.dll file
Method 2: Install the latest Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributable package
Method 3: Repair the game
Method 4: Reinstall the game
Method 5: Run a virus/malware scan of your entire system
Method 1: Install the MSVCP140.dll file
To play Sims 4, you need to have MSVCP140.dll installed on your computer. As the error message says, the error occurs due to missing the MSVCP140.dll file. That’s to say, installing the MSVCP140.dll file will probably fix the error.
You can download the MSVCP140.dll file manually and then put the file back to the location where it should be installed to. To download the file freely, you can go to dll-files.com.
After installing the file, check to see if you’re still facing the MSVCP140.dll missing error with Sims 4.
If Method 1 doesn’t work for you, continue to try Method 2.
Method 2: Install the latest Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributable package
MSVCP140.dll is part of the Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributable package. If you don’t have the Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributable package installed on your computer, the MSVCP140.dll missing on Sims 4 error can occur. To fix the error, you can try installing the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package.
You can download the latest Microsoft C++ Redistributable package from Microsoft (go to the download page of Microsoft). The package can be used for Apps built using the Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022 toolsets.
If you’re using the 32-bit system, you just need to install the 32-bit package. If you’re using the 64-bit system, install both the 32-bit package and the 64-bit package.
After downloading the package, double-click on the file and follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation.
Note: If you already have the Microsoft Visual C ++ Redistributable package installed, you’ll be prompted to repair the package, then just click on Repair and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once done, restart your computer and check to see if the Sims 4 MSVCP140.dll file missing error still occurs.
If the error still occurs, try Method 3.
Method 3: Repair the game
Repairing Sims 4 may help fix the MSVCP140.dll file missing error. To do so:
1) Launch Origin.
2) Click on the Game Library tab.
3) Right-click on Sims 4 then select Repair Game.
4) Once done, restart your computer then check to see if you’re still facing the error.
If repairing the game doesn’t work, try reinstalling the game (see Method 4)
Method 4: Reinstall the game
To fix the MSVCP140.dll file missing error on Sims 4, you can try reinstalling the game.
1) Open Origin.
2) Right-click on Sims 4 and click on Uninstall.
3) Once done, restart your computer.
4) Download and install Sims 4 again.
Method 5: Run a virus/malware scan of your entire system
Virus/malware can stop the MSVCP140.dll file being detected. So run a virus/malware scan of your entire system to see if your system is infected with virus/malware.
Windows Defender might not be enough to detect virus/malware. You can try a trustworthy third-party antivirus or anti-malware software and see if it helps. If you have no idea what software you can use, the well-known MalwareBytes is your go-to option.
